Wine and the Upper West Side: A Springtime Engagement Session

1

With springtime upon us, Jess and Eric celebrated their engagement in one of my favorite fashions: keeping their photo session to a few places they love and were meaningful to their relationship.

I met Jess and Eric through an Instagram post and immediately loved their story. Connected through mutual friends, their romance grew over several years and a shared love of travel, music, film and farmer’s market shopping. They got engaged in a park in NYC, echoing the classic You’ve Got Mail film, and celebrated after with family and friends. For their engagement photos, they wanted a classic session that highlighted the Upper West Side, where they spent much of their time together, so we highlighted a few key spots that were important to them.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Our first stop was to Vin Sur Vingt, the loveliest wine bar on West 84th Street. VSV was one of Jess and Eric’s go to date night spots, and they were already familiar with the team who graciously allowed us to use their space before they opened for a private session. I loved having this time to play – catching them in some candid romantic moments at the bar, pouring wine for each other and stealing a kiss with their reflection in the window.

On the Street Where You Live

Because it was a beautiful spring day, we wanted to take advantage of tree-lined streets and the gorgeous NYC brownstones, so we wandered around the radius near the bar for a little while. There were so many sweet and tender moments I loved here – Eric wrapping Jess in his coat, Jess scratching his chin as they relaxed on the steps of a brownstone. They are so gentle and kind to each other – every time I looked at them they were smiling at each other!

Dancing on the Rooftop

For the last part of our session, we popped over to their apartment rooftop for some quiet portraits and a relaxed moment of them in their element. Jess changed into a flowy dress which we of course had to show off with some impromptu dancing! I am so happy for these two, and wish them a lifetime of happiness!
